I am Committed to Myself and My Goals

This week’s “Affirmation of the Week” is one I have to remind myself of often. It’s a great one to reinforce your resolution for the New Year, too.
“I am committed to myself and my goals.”
The further you get into your weight loss journey, the easier it becomes to lose sight of your goals. This one is a good one to keep you going, but more than that, it’s a reminder to put yourself first.
If you’re like me, you hold down a full time job, you’re raising a child or children, you’re nurturing a relationship with your significant other, and you’re somehow finding time to clean the house and take care of errands. There’s barely time to breathe, let alone sleep. When you find (or make) the time to eat right and exercise on a regular basis, you’re showing your’re committed to yourself and your goals. When you get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life, it can be hard to honor your commitment.
I’m a caretaker. It’s just my nature. I’m always doing things for people, and I really have a hard time saying “No.” when I’m overwhelmed, or too busy. I do it because it warms my heart, and I get a sense of satisfaction knowing that I helped someone, whether it’s my husband and son, my best friend, or a complete stranger. I get a strange “thrill” at the end of the day when my chores are done, and my family has everything they need, regardless of how exhausted it may leave me. I thrive on knowing things are accomplished, and can’t stand to leave anything hanging. I know many of you out there can identify!
For a long time, I never put myself first. Most of the time, I’m still toward the bottom of my own list, even if I don’t set out to be that way. This affirmation helps me to remember that I need to be first on my own list. If I’m not healthy, then the people I care for every day don’t have what they deserve, and that’s the best. It’s totally okay to put yourself first, especially if that means telling someone to wait, because you need to make yourself a healthy meal or exercise.
When life starts to get in the way and discourage you from sticking to your health and wellness goals, use this affirmation to remind yourself of your commitment and its value. It’ll push you through those rough patches that we all inevitably run into.
When you use this one, try reaffirming your goals by specifying what they are. What goals are you committed to? I’d love to hear them!
